Hudson Music Project - Listening to Saturday

Just earlier Hudson Music Project released the set times for each day of the festival. After seeing how the days will be panning out, I'm excited to say this festival will be filled with tons of awesome music and good times.

Here's what Saturday looks like:

As you can see there's four stages and sometimes they all overlap. This can complicate things when you wanted  to see a set in full, but ride the rails and the next stage over which could be a ten minute walk and a few thousand people to get through once you make it there. So you should plan ahead, create a small schedule and don't be afraid to leave it behind if you so please... there will be awesomeness everywhere, and sometimes it will find you.

When Bit Funk hits the stage, get ready for some late afternoon delightful soul. You will be feeling satisfied throughout. The is also a great place to glovers to be.. assuming the Catskill Cave stage is indoors. Set time's at 4:30pm.

Coming at you in the Circus Tent just as the sun slowly disappears, Kap Slap will bring on that big progressive house sound to your earholes. I imagine the Circus Tent to be the equivalent to the dance tents at previous festivals, and I can't wait to see the visuals happening here. Kap Slap will hit the stage at 7:30, and will directly be followed by....

One big sound after the next. The buildups and energy in the Circus Tent will be HYPE through Felix Cartal's set. It'll be two epic hours at the festival, be sure to catch in on some of this action while you are wandering the music and grounds.

Late nights can start getting a little different at a festival. Music that is put together differently than a build and a drop. Hudson Project has graced us with an opportunity to experience Gold Panda in all his glory. This is a set I might pull the art supplies out for.


Well, whatever set you check out I'm sure they will be awesome. Remember though, explorers explore.

New York Festival Watch: Hudson Music Project

Earlier in the year, it was confirmed that Camp Bisco would be going on a hiatus with a possible return next year. After over a decade going strong, most festy heads were a little daunted by the news, after all, Camp Bisco was the premier camping festival with the power house lineups that blew away the crowds.

But have no fear!! The answer to your New York summer festival is here!! Coming in for it's inaugural year, the Hudson Music Project will ease your pain of loosing Camp Bisco for this summer. 

Taking places upstate New York, in Saugerties, the Hudson Music Project is bringing a huge lineup and tons of other festival goodness to you for three days, July 11-13. 

Hudson Music Project is put together by the same management group that ran Camp Bisco, the same guys doing Counterpoint at this very moment, and countless other festivals around the country. We're talking about  MCP Presents (Meat Camp Productions Presents). These guys have tons of experience with throwing wildly successful events. If you've ever been to a festival, you know how big the community gets and hard it can be to keep things 100%. MCP brings a festy together like none other, with the perfect amount of organization and professionalism. Being that they've done this before, I couldn't wait to see the musical lineup, and holy sh*t.

Kendrick Lamar, Bassnectar, Modest Mouse, STS9, Moby, Big Gigantic, Excision, Paper Diamond, Kill Paris, Bro Safari, Tokimonsta, and even Long Island's very own Tauk!! The list goes on and on, and we couldn't be more excited. It's a perfect blend of all different genres. This is about music, and very talented artists will be bringing it with their all. Make sure to check out the full lineup and create you very own schedule to help you keep track of who's playing on what stage and making sure you see all your favorites and see someone new!

Another thing that MCP is keeping around for this festivals are their ever growing art installations. Every year they get more interesting and cooler, with tons of extraordinary visual artists coming in to do live painting and other interactive installations. For Hudson Music Project, there will actually be an Art Bazaar. Not too much information has been released about it, but the fact that it's even going to exist is pretty damn exciting. 

Of course there will be vendors, workshops, and probably a Ferris wheel  knowing MCP. There is also a big focus on Clean Vibes. Clean Vibes is a project that basically gives incentives to people to get help and keep the festival grounds clean. There has been way too much waste at so many of these festivals, from cigarette butts all over, trash just left in places, and even people leaving entire camping supplies behind. Clean Vibes will provide you with two bags, one for recycling and one for trash. you fill those bags up and bring them back to the Clean Vibes Trading Post, and you can "cash" them in for "money". In other words, more recycling and trash equals more points to spend on cool gear. Not only is it getting you swag, but it's also very rewarding helping clean the environment.

Tickets are just over with camping $200, so go and grab them. Of curse you have the option for VIP camping, EZ Tents (which include a limited edition tent, sleeping bags, air mattress and a solar powered light!!), and even Glamping, glamour camping!

Essential Music Festival Packing List: Camp Bisco 12

Summer has officially started, and with that the music festival tours are heating up!! Here at EGP we have toured around to different festivals over the years, learning what to expect and how to 'survive' for the weekend in the rough. So we are here today to help share our knowledge on what to pack up to ensure you are comfortable, happy, and enjoying the festival to the fullest extent.

Firstly, do yourself a favor and check the website of whatever festival you are planning on going to. The next thing to keep in mind is that the following camping list is aimed at those who are looking for the essentials, aka the short list. Being that the next festival we are covering will be Camp Bisco 12, this list will include essential tips specifically for this year's Camp Bisco at Indian Lookout Country Club.

DON'T FORGET! Click around the festival's main website for very specific information for this or any event. No one will tell you the rules and what's happening there better than the event coordinators. The folks at MCP are pros, so heed their words of advice and their rules.

1. Bring your TICKET.

Sounds almost silly right? You bought your ticket and it came in the mail, don't forget it at home! It can cause an unnecessary headache for you. There are way too many times we've heard of someone forgetting their tickets at home. That's just...forgetful. It does happen though, so to help you prove you bought that ticket and sort out the damage...

2. Bring your WALLET.

Really, there are only three things you will potentially need in there. Your ID, cash, and a debit/credit card for more money if you have one. There will be bars there with booze, and they will ID you. How much money you want to bring is up to you.  We can't make you any promises of the people you connect with, but don't be surprised to trade your own beers or food for that dope collectible pin or wrap. Money is needed though, so make sure to have some.

3. Bring something to SLEEP IN.

No, not sleep in past day break, sleep inside of. We're talking a tent, or maybe a hammock. Think about how many people are staying in your tent. It's always fun to have a slumber party with your buddies, or maybe you prefer to have a small establishment of tents. Whatever you decide to do, make sure it makes sense. Not every festy will have a spot to sleep dangling in the hammock. Don't forget a blanket (or more than one, some places get cold at night), a pillow, and tarps in case of rain. Some festivals allow for car camping as well, but it usually costs extra!! For Camp Bisco 12 there are still tickets left for that, but they are limited. Get car camping tickets HERE.

4. Bring CLOTHING.

Or just some. For Bisco we'll be in New York... so no public lewdness AKA nudity (read the law speak HERE). Being that it's summer and very hot, you'll want t-shirts and shorts. At least one shirt and underwear per day, and a pair of shorts for daytime and a pair of pants and a sweatshirt for night. For shoes, an old pair of sneakers or sandals with backs work wonders, and absolutely a pair of galoshes. Basically, anything you don't mind getting dirty. If you bring your nice shoes, they will get ruined. There is lots of dirt, which turns into mud if it rains. Also, bring a hat to protect yourself from the sun and keep you a little cooler. Bring a bandanna or two as well. Any of the above can be bought at the festival, but you will pay for it, sometimes a lot more than the store.

5. Bring FOOD.

Don't go crazy. A small cooler of fruit, granola bars, maybe some canned food too. Make sure anything that can melt or go bad stays in the cooler! You can bring a grill if you wanted to. You can bring a small single burner propane grill, or a larger Coleman griddle, but keep in mind keeping the grill clean, gas, wooden spatula/spoon, space for packing, keeping food fresh...it's a hassle. They sell food on premise, but it will sometimes run on the expensive side. Correlate money and food brought with your fellow camping friends to figure out how to keep your bellies full.

6. WATER.

Either factory sealed bottles or an empty container to carry. They have water stations throughout the festival where you can refill your bottle. Feeling sketched out by public water flows? Get a bottle with a filter. Do that, save money, and stay thirsty my friends!

7. ALL THAT EXTRA SH*T.
Here's some other stuff you should bring.

- Toiletries: tooth brush, tooth paste, towel, toilet paper, soap, small shampoo.
There are porta-potties and even public showers available (both inside and out). Expect lines when the music is pumping and everybody is awake.

- FLASHLIGHT
It's really dark at night.

- Trash bags
KEEP YOUR AREA CLEAN DURING AND AFTER THE FESTIVAL. You are an adult, clean up after yourself.

- Folding chair/blanket
It's nice to take a seat in front of a stage or by your campsite.

- Sun screen
Protect against cancer and burns!!

- Bug spray
Protect against pests!!

- Travel cart
If you packed all this, and everything else we didn't tell you to bring, it might be a good idea to make sure you have a cart to carry all that. You will be making long trips from parking to camping.

- Small extras: small knife, extra rope, rain jacket, sunglasses, skill toys (gloves, poi, hula hoop, etc), pen/paper, art supplies, music gear, first aid kit, lighter, ear plugs, camera, zip lock bags, small lock.
These things will help you out and are small enough to not take up too much space. As far as keeping your possessions safe (ie: cell phone, credit card, camera, etc) it's your responsibility. Lock your possessions, keep electronics in plastic bags, and keep your stuff safe.

***Most importantly above all things, BRING YOURSELF.

YOU are special in your own ways.
YOU will connect with like minded people and people that find you interesting.
YOU love having fun and getting along with people.

Open your mind a little bit. Listen to music you wouldn't normally. Check out all the vendors and the different workshops, get involved with clean up and other fun stuff like Color War. Say hi to everyone. Ask if you don't know. Being at a festival is like being part of a community that is super energetic and constantly moving. Participate with everyone and you will be rewarded a hundred times over.

EGP Festival Watch 2013: Camp Bisco 12

Wassup everyone? It's Wish here, about to drop the first look into festivals this year. Year round music festivals are happening all over the world. Every year they are becoming more popular and different festivals have become known as the ones to go to. With this wave of increased festival participation, new music festivals with their own flares have also been emerging all over, some of which are definitely ones to go to. As we get closer to the summer time, and already some festy tickets have gone on presale and sold out in record times, we are going to start letting you know about some of our selection of favorites. From new festivals to old favorites, we're going to start, now.

Last year I had the opportunity to attend my very first festy, Camp Bisco 11. Going in as press, as well as getting a vendors and campers perspective, the whole experience was mind blowing, in a nut shell. It also set me up to what set off a small festival tour, essentially preparing me for what to expect, what to bring, and how to mold into the community that is built in less than a day.

Held upstate New York at a place known as the Indian Lookout Country Club in Mariaville, Camp Bisco will become home to tens of thousands of people from around the world this July. This year will make for Camp Bisco 12, and probably the largest one to date. This is a festival that has grown and morphed over the years, but without ever loosing that essential artistic and community vibe. Even when the initial boost of people came in for Camp 10, and left the townsfolk not to happy, MCP Presents showed their professionalism by making Camp 11 one of the smoothest to date. With another new festival under their belt (CounterPoint), this will be a fantastic and hopefully very smooth year for them. So far they have our full attention.

There is so much to do at camp. Of course there is a very large emphasis on the music with three main stages, side stages, RV DJs, campsite parties, and musical ice cream trucks. Silent Disco is an awesome experience when the stages shut the sound off. There are live art exhibits, projection screens, and plenty of people making their own art. There is basically a vendor village, with a line of vendors selling everything you can imagine. Walk far down enough to get to food you can buy.

It was a wild time last year, and everyone is very excited to go back again this year. The lineup was dropped today, and it's looking quite appealing. Some favorites I'm looking forward to catching live again include Bassnectar, Zoogma, Gramatik, Break Science, Designer Drugs, Heroes x Villians, Lotus, and of course The Disco Biscuits themselves. Camp Bisco will return to the picturesque Indian Lookout Country Club in Mariaville, New York for a seventh straight year. The venue is located approximately 30 minutes travel time from Albany, New York and sits on 200 acres of rolling, grass fields. This year, the festival will enhance its expansive dance tents with surround sound and add greater concert production to all stages. From large-scale art installations and artist workshops to performance art demonstrations, carnival rides and more, Camp Bisco is also increasing the interactive elements in 2013 to create an even better festival experience for patrons. Long distance shuttles will also return, offering service from Albany, Baltimore, Boston, New York City and Philadelphia.

 

A limited allotment of General Admission tickets are on sale now for $185, before raising to the last minute price $199. All-inclusive VIP packages are available again this year, starting at $480 for VIP and $1400 for a pair of Platinum VIP tickets. Four person Platinum VIP packages are available for $2800. Camp Bisco has also introduced a layaway plan, where fans can divide payments on General Admission tickets equally between the on sale date and June 10th. New York Havest Fest 2012: The Eye’s of a Dirty Kid (By: Stringbean)

This year's 16th Damn Sam’s Harvest Festival was held in beautiful Monticello, NY. After a 2-year hiatus it was questionable if Damn Sam's Harvest Festival was able to keep up with previous festivals. Over 30 amazing musical acts including John Kadlecik of Furthur, Immortal Technique, Viral Sound, Mun, Cosmic Dust Bunnies, Dead Milkmen and many more. Alongside the music, there was also live glass blowing by artists of Last Fair Deal and Jacks House of Glass with some very talented live spray painting by artist of Black Ink. From lighter leashes and gemstones to wonderfully stinky green, this year Damn Sam's Harvest Festival had it all. And did I forget to mention the champion of this year's harvest festival…. This Catskill set 4 day festival was very relaxed and accommodating to everybody's festival needs. It was quite a liberating and mind opening experience and the staff and security where more than accommodating. There was a very diverse musical scene there from Grateful Dead cover bands to hip hop to punk and hardcore bands including a fantastic performance by John K guitarist of Furthur. From seasoned tours vets to first rodeo kids, everybody had a ball.

One main theme of the Harvest festival is the Harvest of the green plant that can cure cancer, be a competitive alternative to high octane clean burning fuel and be made into clothing, with its new uses growing everyday. This year’s champion of the Damn Sam’s New York Harvest festival was Blue Dream, competing against Tiger Eye. Previous champions from “09” Cinderella and “01”.

Many other very nice options were around such as Vertigo, Og Sour, and a wonderful treat called Chem Dog. Once you had tried all of the different and amazing strains there was great munchie food, such as deep fried Oreo’s, cheesecake, grilled cheese, chicken fingers, Jerry Rolls and that most badass of breakfast foods, the classic French toast with syrup. Although every time I was on the hunt, it was nowhere to be found.

This venue was different than your regular festival grounds. Both indoor and outdoor stages for the tunes and a massive amount of vendors with many different wares. The indoor grounds gave people an opportunity to escape when it got slightly rainy and chilly. There's always the badasses that likes to brave the rain and mud. Indoor vendor village was literally hallways and hallways of vendors carrying vast collectibles and necessities. There was even an indoor camping area for the more than urban camper. Everything ran quite smoothly 16 years later showing this festival is going strong.

The Z-Dar - Camp Bisco 11: Space Jesus

Yo Whatup?! Z here again and I just had to share with you something that literally blew me away when I was at Camp Bisco 11. I found myself separated from Wish[Paus3] and Fitz, so I decided to take my good friend Josh around for some sight seeing in the late nights on Friday. We found ourselves at the door of the Silent Disco neatly tucked away on the outskirts of the festival with an impressive underwater decor theme and a caged dance floor and a cool versus-style DJ setup. They had two DJs every set to go on the wireless headphones off two FM channels. The headphones were some of the best I've ever used by the way, on top of being wireless with no delay. I thought it was a cute idea but I didn't really give it any thought to who might be there until earlier that morning Alpha Data had told me he would be playing again later in the Silent Disco. Being that he's one of my favorite glitch hop DJs made me realize I should be spending a lot more time there, and boy was I right in deciding that.

ENTER SPACE JESUS

I Had no Idea what to expect from The EDM producer and DJ, Jasha Tull, I mean really? Space Jesus? I had thought the name was funny in a cheesy way. Maybe some campy DJ alot of the locals knew or some kinda fun joke guy... at least that's what I expected. Upon putting those wireless headphones I was instantly hooked on some the dopest, dirtiest, catchiest, and most versatile music I have heard from one single DJ at Bisco 11 yet. I mean just listen to this:

DURO DURO ft. Capitan Futuro & The Galaxy Girls by SPACE JESUS

DURO DURO quickly became one of my favorite songs ever the second I heard it and I'm pretty sure it was his first time playing it that day from what he said, and It doesnt dissappoint with its catchy vibe and nice glitched out vocal work that just gets your head in the right kinda mood to party. Great thing to be introduced to the Silent Disco to if I don't say so myself. 

Book One by SPACE JESUS

Songs like Book One, really showed off his harder side with still keeping a bouncy style that leads off in a sick original styled drop that I quickly learned can only be called Space Jesus style. I couldn't help myself I was literally jumping around at every corner of his music it sets such a great mood, and it looks like he's having a blast doing what he loves on stage. Keep a lookout for him if you don't know him already I expect alot from him. He's also giving away his newest album Quantum Crunk Theory for free on his Bandcamp. He just might really be a saint.

Camp Bisco Artist Spotlight: Alpha Data

Camp Bisco 11 starts tomorrow! All throughout the weekend we will bring you different artist spotlights from an awesome guest writer who was just returned from a 6 month festy tour. I am pleased to introduce you to the very well cultured and well traveled Fitz!

Alpha Data on the Grind

Alpha Data is an artist who struck me by surprise when I saw him open for the Polish ambassador this past March. I was first struck by his inventive sampling, in particular his use of clips from the early days of internet meme culture, in songs such as “I'm a computer” or “WTF, mate”, and then by the tasteful and hard hitting choice of remixes ranging everywhere from cherished album tracks “Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots” by the Flaming Lips and cultural standards like Wild Cherry’s “Play that Funky Music White Boy”, to breathing new life to such recent hits as the Red Hot Chili Peppers “Snow” or Muse’s “The Uprising”. His most recent release “ADHD” shows a good portion of his range from upbeat glitch hop like the aforementioned “WTF, mate” to heavy electro-house like the title track “ADHD”.

If this promising young producer has managed to craft these beats while finishing his law degree, I cant wait to see what hes been able to do on his summer vacation. Be sure to catch his set at 12:30 to 1:30pm on the label stage for a chance to catch one of the most talented up and coming producers playing this festival.

What To Bring to Camp Bisco XI 2012

So, now that Bisco is a few days away, I am getting myself ready to go on this epic adventure. I've been camping before, but nothing like this. Camp Bisco has become so enormous that it cannot be contained. There are some essentials that you should bring with you to the campgrounds. One thing to remember! You can do this camping experience on the bear minimal, however, you can make your stay a little more comfortable by being prepared. After all, there will be plenty of folk there to give you a hand I'm sure. Get your packing list together!!

• Backpack
• Clean Clothing (water proof stuff for sure as well!)
• Sneakers (rain/mud boots)
• Tent
• Sleeping Bag/Blanket/Pillow
• Flashlight
• Reusabel Water Bottle (I got a Nalgene, also check out Brita)
• Hygiene Supplies (DEODORANT)
• Money
• Pen/Paper 
• Balloon/Flag (something to help identify your tent)

Honestly, if you take that stuff, you could go on adventure after adventure, meeting tons of new people and really getting a feel for what's happening all around you. I feel like the more you surround yourself with stuff, you might have a comfort zone, but you'll also be tying yourself down. Now, in my opinion that's the bear minimum. I'd take a little more with me just to be safe (and not smelly).

• Food (I'd do canned and non perishables. There will be affordable food sold as well)

In just one week is the beginning for us at Camp Bisco. I got the final word in on the press passes, and I am so happy to be bringing along a buddy and excellent videographer, Steve from Triple Threat Productions. We are going to be bringing you HD video, photos, and live up-to-the-minute updates FROM the campgrounds at Bisco... and guess what, we've started now! Everyone, meet Steve:

Steve has a little more experience than I do on the festival scene, but I have a feeling this is going to be brand new territory for me. I'm going to be releasing my own Vlogs as well, so keep on the lookout for those! We can't wait to be there!

My First Festival: Camp Glow

There are music festivals happening all over the country and world, especially during the summer time. With Electrik Graffiti quickly growing on the East Coast, Mufasa and Koyote decided it was time to head south and introduce their styles down there. We took the opportunity to check out a local music festival in Virginia, called Camp Glow.

This was my official first festival, complete with setting a tent, cooking in a bonfire, and sleeping amongst a few hundred people that I would get to know pretty well by the end of the weekend. All the attendants were supporting autism awareness, and they were donating with ticket price as well as with canned food. Being surrounded by thoughtful, friendly and colorful souls was one of the best parts of the weekend for me. It was awesome being able to walk around to just talk to people and see who they are. The grounds were pretty large. Essentially the property was a farm surrounded by woods. There were horses roaming the fields, random wood creatures peering out from the woods, tall grasses, plenty of earth and open space.... it felt millions of miles away from the suburbs of Long Island.

There was a full line up of DJs, ranging from VA locals like Jynx and Conduktor, to out of towners like Fattie Fatz and Unicron. It was awesome listening to the filthy sounds of the south, they give a whole new feeling to dubstep,  and don't even come close to touching the hardstyles of New York. Different areas different swag... it felt good and culturing. There were three stages to pick at any time. Main stage was in the largest field, there was a forest stage (in the forest [duh]), and another stage on the other side of the forest. All three were technically connected through a path in the woods, although the direct path was meant for staff and devoid festival goers.

There were so many vendors on site too. It was awesome meeting everyone, shout out to Neon Black clothing, their stuff is on point! There was massaging with Giggle Box, fresh food and drinks, jewelry, glass blowing and so much more! Seeing everyone out doing their thing was great, so many people had so many skills. Electrik Graffiti also had the opportunity to set up shop right at the entrance to the woods and the forest stage. One tent served as a canopy leading to the woody path, and at night this canopy glowed brighter than anything in that field. It was almost like walking through a portal for festival goers, from music and open space into light and then in the darker woods emmiting differents tunes to dance and throw lights to.

Gloving was awesome. Almost needless to say. Friday was my gloving day, and VA has some sick glovers. I was so happy to get an awesome reception down there, I can't wait to wave my hands around in the air with them again ;)


And then came Sunday morning. There had been thoughts among us of something going down, because on Saturday there was a guy walking around asking lots and lots of questions. Turns out he was undercover, and him being there warranted the state police to come in and break up the music festival. They rounded everyone up around 5am, some reportedly were dragged out of tents and some said they were even physically hurt by the officers. Once they had everyone together in one of the fields, they searched every tent with a drug sniffing dogs and of course manually. There were several arrests and narcotics found. There are two sides to every story, and this is one that is a continuing story. The owners of the property are not happy with the way they and the situation was treated.

To add to the story, I've taken a direct quote from one of the women that live in the house about the story that came out in the news: "It just makes me so mad. But no. That was real. We all saw it. They searched our house as well. Took all our computers and other sh*t from the house. Notice they don't show any of that. But they did bring us a copy of the warrant the next day and scratched a bunch of sh*t out that hadn't been [there] when they showed us. It was flawed and you can bet we're not backing down. Orry's mom already has a meeting with a GOOD lawyer. About everything that went down too. Not just the house. They broke so many rules." Lesson of the day? Make sure all your legal obligations are covered as well as be prepared to deal with situations if they arrive. Everyone was extremely well behaved, having an amazing time and fun, until it got torn apart. It opened my eyes to festivals though and I'll tell you, I need more.
