This is a place for everything related to Electronic Dance Music! Tracks, DJs, light shows, festivals, news, entertainment, reviews, interviews...this is about Electronic Dance Music Culture and Community.
About a week ago, I was approached with the opportunity to sit down with the most famous person I have ever interviewed to date...the Danish Pop Star, Medina. She was the most down to earth and lovable character, and she made it clear why her fans love her so much, and why she is successfully involved in everything she does. Which is incredible considering the amount of awards she's won, as well as the prestige of being the most Googled person in Denmark, as well as getting more airplay last year than anyone else.
I was presented with this interview from our friends over at UnderNYC.com. Over there you can hear the full 30 minute interview, as well as read the transcript. I also put together this little teaser too. If you are into this 8 minutes, I implore you to check out the whole deal. She really is an inspiration and I have been left humbled by her energy.
Back on November 17, an event happened to promote the different and various arts that the Electronic Dance Music community harbors. The event was called "Parachute: Supporting the Creative Community". It is Parachute's goal to showcase and educate what the EDM scene is all about, from painting, sculpting, dance, and music, to textiles and other creative and hobbies. This showcase happens through demonstrations, seminars, music, dance and live art creation, as well as vendors. What's better than teaching people all the positive and good that members of the EDM community has to offer? The event being FREE of course!!
This event had my ears perked up as well as my intrigue. Can this be? After all it's an event we all always wanted. In today's USA, when we hear about raves the image is of teenagers wearing the skimpiest amount of clothing, lots of plastic bead bracelets, "molly", and pounding bass drops. To some extent, this was always existed. However, it is not fair to make such a blanket statement about all people involved in this community.
Deadaudio.com, NY DanceSafe, and Underland NY have come together to host this event. Last month featured dancers, art demonstrations such as face painting, graffiti art and live painting, DJs spun music, and there were different seminars as well. The next Parachute will be held this coming weekend. As mentioned, this is a free event and also appropriate for all ages. Let's break down the negative stereotypes together, and have a good time!

Hey, wassup it's Wish! About this time last year, I attended my first massive event, Holiday Madness. Showtek was in, there were thousands of people lining the dance floor at Amazura Concert Hall, and everything was just unbelievable. Now, it's time for part two, as Caffeine Entertainment and Epic Entertainment brings us back to the insanity with Holiday Madness 2 [re]gifted, sponsored by Kikwear.
This year the party is back and in the legendary Amazura. Amazura can easily hold thousands of people, and only twice in the past year have I personally seen an event that actually looked full there. One was Bobble Invaders (PLUR Rave Promotions 1st party) and last year's Holiday Madness. This event is stacking up to be in the same boat with 2,000 people rsvp'ed on the main facebook invite. Of course we know not to judge a party by that number, but the higher the attending rate, the more people actually come out. Amazura sports two stages on two floors. The main stage is significantly larger than the upstairs area, being able to fit over 3,000 people without a doubt. Upstairs has a jungle theme going on, along with windows over looking the main floor. The ambiance of the place is surreal when it's filled up.

What's a party without entertainment?! A long awaited booking has taken place for this party. The legendary DJ Isaac will be returning to New York to spin this party. It's been a while since he was here last, and only got to perform about three minutes of his set (thank you FDNY) at Naughty Neon 2 back in February. So now, at a much larger spot, his appearance will be [re]gifted for everyone to enjoy. If you are not familiar with his music, get on it, the bitches will appreciate it.
The lineup is epic, with city favorites X-Dream and Jen Mas, and Tight Crew's very own DJ Soappy. Making the visuals extra special is Morgan Freeman. Anybody who has been to the club knows what the laser system is like there, so putting one and two together is always epic. If all this wasn't good enough, there going to be a lot more. We're talking body painting, people on stilts walking around, aerialists, a cotton candy and popcorn machine, a kandi station, and even a sexy Santa contest with a $100 prize. This will be a night to remember [or not ;)].
Get your tickets before 2pm on Friday and save five dollars. Use that five dollars to buy your of age friends a drink. This is the most definitely the right way to kick off your partying for New Years weekend!! I'll catch you there, with gloves on and camera in hand. If you see me, say hi!
Hey guys, Z here! This past weekend...where to begin?! Oh man stacked weekend all
around guys, I know all of you have epic stories on the mayhem that
ensued at the annual Mad Decent Block Party in Williamsburg Park last
Saturday instead of its last year location South Street Seaport. It
was crazy event thrown for free by the amazing people at Mad Decent
which I personally enjoyed the hell out of, torrential downpours and
biblical lightening aside but we'll elaborate on THAT later. It was
one hell of a scorching hot and humid day on asphalt with literally
no shade whatsoever but all the free Vitamin Water and music kept everyone
there hydrated and sane [lol]!
Looming-Dooming Clouds Will Not Separate Us
The Mad Decent block party returned to NYC this year in its long standing run since 2008 in Philly where it humbly
started with a lot of (now) big names. This year other than NYC it has
hit it's home again along with Toronto, and if you haven't caught it
and are lucky enough run over to it in Chicago on the 18th and soon
to be Los Angeles on the 25th. Never away from a festival setting have
I seen a more dedicated and connected crowd, it seemed everyone had
their own thing to add or experience to share with everyone and it was
all just a great time. Lots of old friends and new ones and the collective
mayhem that went down was something to be admired. For now though I'm
gonna share with you my opinion on who put down the best shows at this
years Mad Decent Block Party.
Zebra Katz
Zebra Katz was definitely a crowd bringer,
literally hipster girls and guys from all over started running to the
stage as soon as they were announced. It was quite the spectacle, with
asses shaking everywhere to their signature song I'ma Read which they
dropped every other song I'm certain was an I'ma Read remix. It didn't
piss anyone off as most might think it actually got crowds going again,
and again.
Baauer
Baauer KILLED IT, Best set of the whole day
with Trap galore as we would all expect from the man. I never
seen a crowd wave so hard to bass in my life, and when Harlem Shake
dropped, man I even went in. He played a relatively short set but MY
GOD was it a banger and a half. His amount of energy was buzzing all
around the crowd, literally when he was more into it, the crowd got
more into it making a back and fourth twisting of energy that really
got everyone noticing and excited as hell.
Riff Raff [if you see somebody hating point them out]
Riff Raff is a guy that nobody quite knows
if he's serious or if he's kidding, and at Mad Decent it was incredibly
apparent to me that this guy was hilarious. Rap skills aside, people
say he's bad but if you look at it satirically it's genius. He blatantly
on purpose decided to lip sync rap which is unheard of and kept showing
it by talking to his DJ while his verses were up and joking around on
stage. It was my personal introduction to him but honestly I loved the
show and I'd see him again. Here's the crowd in Philly during his set:
One thing that kinda sucked was the intense
storm that got the rest of the show cancelled during Erol Alkan's set
leaving no appearances by Major Lazer which kinda got me angry but it
wasn't their fault. Diplo himself came out and gave an apology and offered
to play a longer set at the after party at the Music Hall of Willamsburg.
It grinded at a lot of people since it was a 10 dollar show for 21+ when
the block party itself was free and all ages, but I supposed there was
nothing more that could have been done. I felt bad for Mad Decent since
they did put together all the effort in the world for a great event
for free and they were getting a lot of backlash, but their precautions
proved to be true because right after the announcement came up riots
in the street and chaos ensued as a torrential downpour came out of
nowhere as if we all stepped into a shower. This is literal, no exaggeration.
I watched as lightening stroke buildings right near where I was running
with thousands of other people. In retrospect it was fun as hell, and
a little bit dangerous but no harm done. I mean it gives for a great
story doesn't it?
