[Space] Flux Productions - Lumpy Space Disco - Getting to Know You Through Party

More recently we've seen new DJs, promoters, photographers, production crews... people trying to make a difference in the scene, popping up. It's become a jaded topic, people saying that all these n00bs want is free entry to a party with the chance to say that they are actually doing something instead of just being a 'raver'. Some of these accusations might be true, but there are those fresh faces that are really moving towards a positive change and that want more than notoriety, they want to help the community move forward and introduce new and fresh ideas as well.

Breaking It Down to the Lumpy Beats By: Ronnie C.

One such group of new producers, is [Space] Flux productions.  Last weekend marked their second venture into throwing a party, the first being When Worlds Collide. That was as [Space] Flux, before that existed Peanut Butter Plur and an event that will go down in history, Power Ravers. That party set the tone for [Space], essentially it was all a cardboard art piece, the Megazord.

"I want art and interactiveness at our parties. The things we can do with cardboard, and the art we make with cardboard... I know it sounds funny, but you know what? Even now we'll take some cardboard and make it into something, like a giant Lady Rainicorn." - Mattypoi Flux

And they did deliver. Hanging out at the Electric Warehouse right above the stage entrance was the colorful wonder. And it's all too true. Decorations are a huge part to any event. As a party-goer, you should have fresh sets in similar locations, ever changing spaces for you to explore and check out what's going on. Putting music on in a room and throwing some lights in the mix doesn't cut it anymore (unless you're in the basement [lol]). For Lumpy Space Disco, all the deco was out. Being an Adventure Time theme, there were so many possibilities with such a wild and zany idea to work with. They had cut outs of different candy castle workers, models of Finn and the Ice King with a graffiti type edge to them. They had a disco ball hanging as well, adding to the disco feel. And of course you can't forget about the lights and visuals.

All around the main room of the Lab were Adventure Time projections with some of my personal favorite scenes in the mix. Biggie Stardust also came out out as the digital hostess to introduce DJs. Behind the visuals was none other than Morgan Freeman (Bluecrash). On lights and lasers was Paradox Productions, and they did the rooms up really nicely, as always. Also on it was Kevin Carpet, lying down by the smoking exit for most of the night. It's always such a pleasure to see him at a party, and you can expect to see him at any [Space] Flux party.

"Kevin Carpet! Every time I go to a party I look forward to seeing him. It's not a party unless Kevin is there! I won't have a party unless he comes, I really consider him family." - Maria Flux

Any Adventure Time fan would've felt right at home, so many people came in costume! There were so many Finn's, a BMO, a nice mix of Jake, and many different princesses (my favorite was the Fire Kingdom Flame Princess). It was so many people's first or first-five event. It seems to be a trend with [Space]'s parties, they attract the constant new breed. This is defiantly a positive with the way the Flux family is trying to put a positive spin on the scene.

"We've (the NY scene) had raves that are advertised as 'theme parties' but then at the party nothing is really themed. That's when I started thinking to myself, how can we make it better? The first thing I thought of was deco. Deco makes people happy, it's half the fun of going to a party, being emmersed in this new world." -Mattypoi Flux

"It used to be that you couldn't go to a party without cops bothering you asking you if your doing drugs, asking if you're getting into trouble, riding on you whether you're doing something or not. This scene should be a safe haven for party-goers. Our parties are a place where people can come together and just be accepted, not get judged, as long as they don't ruin everyone else's time." -Maria Flux

So Much Bass! By: Yaz

The music was blasting all night, with a good amount of dubstep, drumstep, and plenty of hard beats. In town for the first time ever were both GRiZ & Prototype Raptor! GRiZ was actually chilling with everyone in the beginning of the party, he's a mad chill person. For people here in NY, we are not too familiar with him. Anyone would have thought he was the man at the party, having a good time with everyone. It was awesome hearing them spin, brought a whole new flavor to the NYC scene.

The party was great, as usual, the post on the wall after the party were raving about how good of a time they had, it's always a positive to see. There was a lot of work that went into this party, and nearly turned into a migraine for [Space] Flux, but in the end, everything was pulled off nicely at the Lab. I can't wait until their next party, looks like it my just be the continuation of Power Ravers... which to you a say [duh].

[Space] Flux Makes a Name for Itself with Nintendo Themed Rave

I know it's a little late now... but a couple Saturday night's ago was a night for many ravers here in NY that will not be forgotten anytime soon. From most of the same folks that put together my favorite party of all time (Power Ravers [duh]) brought us "When World's Collide", a Nintendo themed rave.

Once again, I made my way over to The Electric Warehouse (herein "The Lab"). I came a little late for this one, but I was extremely pumped about what I was about to walk into. I knew about some stuff in the background (that unfortunately I still cant talk about) that was going to make this rave BEAST compared to any other rave that's been there. However, when I came in half the stuff I heard about was not there. However, what was going on there blew my freaking mind!

First and foremost, I walked into Rockman's set. It felt like there were easily over a thousand people in the room, walking through a crowd had never been this hard for me. Rockman was tearing up the floor it was unbelievable. I headed over the Electrik Graffiti tent to say hey to everyone and see what was going on. As I walked up, I saw 30 (maybe more) glovers surrounding the side area and front of the tent. Mufasa came up to me and all rushed asked if I wanted to join the glover's competition.

Paus3. A glover's competition that is actually going down? Not even five minutes in the door and the DJ I couldn't wait to see is spinning AND there's a legit competition about to happen. I was glowing. I was not ready to start gloving, I had just gotten there and my camera wasn't even out yet, so I had to decline... this time. There were 22 glovers in total for the tourney and Raptor came out on top! He won himself a brand new pair of gloves with Genesis chips, an $80 value prize from Electrik Graffiti. He was pumped that he won, and let me tell you, this kid has major skills!

Another hug bonus to this party was having Morgan Freeman there. Morgan brought a ton of his game to the table, making some of the coolest digital mapping I've seen of his in person. Since this was a Nintendo themed party, the downstairs was Hyrule Castle. The walls were covers in flying Triforce symbols, sometimes it looked like someone was actually playing the Ocarina of Time, and my favorite was the stained glass windows from Hyrule Castle. Morgan made the room look absolutely amazing.

Of course [Space] Flux did their own decorations that looks wild! With Morgan and a little extra from Flux the downstairs portrayed the historical Zelda castle beautifully. Upstairs with Kirby's Dreamland was a little different, but very original. The walls were covers with hand painted sheets. They were very colorful, and very trippy! It was great to see the elbow grease they put into making the scene comes to life, both rooms were very colorful and delightful to be in. And don't forget everyone's favorite carpet, Kevin Carpet! He was by the door to step outside and get some fresh air, and some awesome pictures came out of that as well! People get really artsy with the living art!

The music was kicking all night and it all went off with very few hitches. There was a costume contest that went down, and the two top costumes were awesome! First place went to a Zentai cat suit Zentai Samus, and second place to a girl dressed up in a well-made home-made Charizard costume! The winner was supposed to get a free Nintendo tattoo from Eddie at Heart of Brooklyn Tattoo!

All in all, this party was a massive success. Great job to everyone at Flux, and I can't wait till the next one!! Check out all these awesome pictures!!

They will be decked out accordingly, with the main room themed after Hyrule (Zelda [duh]), and upstairs will be Kirby's Dreamland! A Weekend of Electricity

There were two events this past weekend that should not have been missed. It marked the second party for Blue Star Productions and a stand alone event brought on by the handiwork of three awesome ravers! Both were great events and both unfolded very differently. They had a lot of similarities as well as many differences... Let's take a closer gander into the happenings of A Heartless Valentine and Pussy Power!

Hype Them Up! By: Sam Froond
First and foremost, this was a double header for the Electric Warehouse, aka The Lab. Both were themed parties: Heartless being Kingdom Hearts themed and Pussy Power being....well vagina. The decor for each party was pretty cool too. For Heartless, there were people sporting keyblades running around, a lot of people in costume, Jack Skellington was all over the upstairs -  which was absolutely stunning by the way, playing cards on the walls, a big wall with the Kingdom Hearts logo on it behind the kandi table, a sick laser system by Paradox Productions... some pretty cool stuff. Pussy power had decorations all over! Some walls had white sheets with holes cuts in them, there were lips and balloons all over the place, painted banners, visualizations by Kaliptus, towers with LED disks blasting color out, an LED wall behind the DJ booth... Pussy Power went all out with decorations!

You can imagine how different the room looked with just the lights alone. For example, at Heartless the upstairs was banging with the lights and awesome decor. For a while the upstairs at Pussy Power was lightless, lending hand to upstairs being a little more chill. Eventually there was a system brought upstairs, and the room became more lively, but it was good to have a spot that was more relaxed. The rooms were lit up otherwise, not to mention Kaliptus' work. His visualizations are mostly animations he put together, and it's some trippy stuff. He was telling me how most of his work is in the psy-trance scene, a genre of music that I really got into while gloving. Best believe that in a little bit I'll be going to one of his events and seeing what that side of the scene looks like.

As far as music goes, Pussy Power felt a lot more laid back. The music seemed to mostly be hardstyle for both parties, and Heartless was banging on it all night. For me personally, I loved Pussy's feeling to the music. The beginning was very trancy, slow and progressive. All of a sudden the beat dropped and hardstyle took over. The weird thing about hardstyle is how trancy it is in the beginning of a track. You could be dancing and jumping around and all of a sudden the whole room is just standing there waiting till the next moving part. One set of DJs that did it right for me was at Heartless, Wink-E VS H4rdnox *Hardstyle Vs.Jumpstyle*. Wink-E knows how to get a crowd pumped, apparently his secret lies in cursing everyone out. No joke, it really works. At Pussy Power, I was melting over Gaby Noodle set. Two reasons, one the music was on point and two she had a gogo dancing slave-girl. This girl had a collar wrapped around her neck and the other end was Gaby's wrist. I stood the and watched as Gaby (without paying any mind) walked to the other side of the stage yanking the girl with her, and she loved it. Plus ten swag points for Gaby, look out for her sets at upcoming events!

Both parties had different attractions, including Kevin Carpet (both), kandi making table (Heartless), Electrik Graffiti with their tent selling scoodies and led toys and gloves (both), UV body paint by Pixel (both), costume contest (Heartless), Massage Table by Batman (Pussy), free stuff like candy (both), Kaliptus (Pussy), fire poi (Heartless).... there was a lot to do and see at each event, which is a very positive thing. Getting people stimulated if they are not dancing to music keeps the movement going.

I was a little put off by some of the crowd at both parties, which is going to be expected anywhere you go. However, when looking over the event postings on facebook, I noticed several similar complaints for either party. At Heartless, a lot of cell phones went missing. At Pussy Power, there were some undesirables that kept putting their hands on women there. Things like this will happen, but in my opinion, collectively it can be dealt with in two ways. What you do to prevent it in the first place, and what everyone does to keep the environment friendly. First and foremost, don't leave your stuff lying around. No matter what. Give it to a friend or have a bag with you, or don't have it at the event in the first place. Second, tell somebody. If something happens, calmly tell the promoters, tell a friend, spread the word, and the situation will hopefully be dealt with.

All in all, I had a fantastic time at each event. However, Pussy Power will forever hold a special place in my heart due to all the wonderful people I met there. From all over the world in fact! It shows that our scene here in NY is thriving. There is so much good in it, what can i say, I love it! Big shout outs to Blue Star Productions, Sacha, Sam, Yolanda and W@x, awesome job this weekend!
