Mysteryland USA 2015: Imaginations will Come Alive

Festival season has already kicked off in the USA, and it will soon be spring here in the North East. There is one festival coming up pretty early this season that is gearing up to be one of the biggest and most anticipated festivals this year. Taking place on the most well known historical music festival playgrounds and encompassing the same vibes of love, community, art and culture. I'm talking about the international sensation of Mysteryland.

Coming back for it's second year at the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts over Memorial Day Weekend (May 22-24, 2015), ID&T's Mysteryland looks to be extremely intriguing. Even at first glance, there is something that pulls you in. Maybe a part of that is the historical event of Woodstock in '69. There is a huge emphasis on culture and art and the people that it's coming from. The announcement trailer helps give off that vibe, telling a story and then combining that with the music that we love and the energy we strive for. Check it out:

What we're seeing here is some of the best musical curators in the NYC area, where there is no genre bounds. Curators such as Webster Hall, BangOn! NY, and Verboten have brought the best of the best to our door step, both musically and visually. Last year boasted artists such as Kaskade, Paper Diamond, Kill the Noise, Showtek, Dillon Francis and so many more. We can't wait to see the full lineup as it's released. You can always get a taste of the different Mysteryland sounds on their Soundcloud.

Mysteryland also aims to create a community that allows festy goers to come together and "discover new boundaries and means of self-expression through diverse settings". What this means is more happening on the festival grounds at all times of the day. Some things that have been announced this year include 'Owari No Nai', a Japanese land filled with Geisha girls, sake and perhaps even some performances. Also announced is Verboten's Culture Series which will include Deep House yoga classes, trivia nights, burlesque shows and art exhibitions from popular and upcoming artists.

Speaking of art, anyone that's been to Mysteryland or has just seen pictures knows who amazing the stages are. Fitted with lasers, towering sets with moving faces, fire works and so much more, experiencing live music with Mysteryland is like being sent to another place. This year's main stage will be debuted here in the US, and we are super stoked to see what is will look like. Also, speaking of art, the art program will be curated by Kevin Balktick. He is a Brooklyn-based producer who was been organizing art and culture experiments for over ten years. What can we expect? The sky is the limit with Kevin. Artists were encouraged to get in touch with the festival to get involved... so this may have been something you influenced. Check out that info here.

Holy Ground Camping tickets are currently 70% sold out... and you know camping is the way to go. Get ticket info and more info about Mysteryland USA 2015 right here.

Hudson Music Project - Listening to Sunday

So far we've covered a small few of the artists performing on Friday and Saturday. If you are partying responsibly, you'll be able to full take in Sunday and it's glory. There are some major performances going down, including the fully blocked out Bassnectar set, something that has been routine as previous festivals from MCP. The whole day is stacked with goodness, and we're going to check out some of them.

The Floozies -

Start your day off with The Floozies in the Circus tent. You be keeping cool with the funky and fun electronic beats. Mark Hill and Matt Hill will move the hills and start you off with a healthy does of a good time. Check out their remixes above, their set time starts at 1:30pm, you'll be up by then right?

Jonas Rathsaman -

Jonas will bring you back to the classic club flow. You'll be feeling good walking into this set. His music is fun and meant to make you move. This will also be midday in set time-terms, the perfect time to get ready for the epicness to follow. Catch Jonas in the Catskill Cave.

Moon Boots -

Keep on dancing in the Catskill Cave as you are lifted into the cosmos with Moon Boots. His bio actually refers to him being a pair of astronaut boots. That alone would have me checking him out. The music is smooth and flowing. Might play a nice introduction into Tipper...

Paper Diamond -

Alex B. is a Colorado based producer, but people have been dancing to him as Paper Diamond. Experience the raw energy that comes to a Paper Diamond set. Shivers will be sent up your spine as your arms and legs get turnt up. People will be going nuts. It will be spectacular. He'll be closing out the festival in the Circus Tent Sunday night. Find me there.

So there you have it! The whole weekend is full of great music and artists...the whole freaking weekend is! Below you'll find the Sunday lineup/set times, and be sure to check out the other two days of features!

Hudson Music Project - Listening to Saturday

Just earlier Hudson Music Project released the set times for each day of the festival. After seeing how the days will be panning out, I'm excited to say this festival will be filled with tons of awesome music and good times.

Here's what Saturday looks like:

As you can see there's four stages and sometimes they all overlap. This can complicate things when you wanted  to see a set in full, but ride the rails and the next stage over which could be a ten minute walk and a few thousand people to get through once you make it there. So you should plan ahead, create a small schedule and don't be afraid to leave it behind if you so please... there will be awesomeness everywhere, and sometimes it will find you.

Bit Funk -

When Bit Funk hits the stage, get ready for some late afternoon delightful soul. You will be feeling satisfied throughout. The is also a great place to glovers to be.. assuming the Catskill Cave stage is indoors. Set time's at 4:30pm.

Coming at you in the Circus Tent just as the sun slowly disappears, Kap Slap will bring on that big progressive house sound to your earholes. I imagine the Circus Tent to be the equivalent to the dance tents at previous festivals, and I can't wait to see the visuals happening here. Kap Slap will hit the stage at 7:30, and will directly be followed by....

Felix Cartal -

One big sound after the next. The buildups and energy in the Circus Tent will be HYPE through Felix Cartal's set. It'll be two epic hours at the festival, be sure to catch in on some of this action while you are wandering the music and grounds.

Gold Panda -

Late nights can start getting a little different at a festival. Music that is put together differently than a build and a drop. Hudson Project has graced us with an opportunity to experience Gold Panda in all his glory. This is a set I might pull the art supplies out for.

Well, whatever set you check out I'm sure they will be awesome. Remember though, explorers explore.

Interview with Supersillyus

A couple months back I went to hang out with Rob Uslan, better known as Supersillyus. He is a multi-talented artist, working on his solo music as well as the popular duo of himself and Space Jesus to make up Schlang. He's been living in NY now, so I headed down to Brooklyn and sat down with the man. The following is a little of what transpired.

There was really no formalities here. Just hanging out that afternoon, talking about random stuff and streams of thought. Supersillyus has some pretty interesting things to talk about when it comes to the state of the scene, writing music, gentrification, and even a few thoughts on psychedelics. He even shared his most recent work in progress at the time.

Rob's an awesome guy, it was a lot of fun chilling with him. He won't be performing too much during the summer time as he's working on multiple records, but be sure to catch him live and really experience Supersillyus in all of his glory, as well as when he performs with Schlang.

Catch him this Saturday (June 21) for a live show and a debut of his newest song. Catch him playing with some legendary artists like Frankie Bones and Afrika Bambaataa at Summer Solstice [click the link for info/tickets]. We'll also be seeing him perform on the festival track this summer at Luna Light, FarmFest, and Wild Woods Music and Arts Festival.

New Music Release - Sunshine Harry - Tauk

Long Island native quartet band Tauk released a brand new song today with a free download! The song is titled 'Sunshine Harry', and it's release kicks off the bands East Coast Halloween Tour.

The track is pretty deep and a lot of fun to listen to. It is almost like a journey into an area that you never really understood before, but the deeper you go into it, the more and more it intrigues you and pulls you in. If I could give the band it's own sub genre, it would be musical story telling. Don't just take my word for it, check it out!

"[Sunshine Harry] was actually originally a B-side on ‘Homunculus,' but it sounds so eerie, we though it would work better as a Halloween single." - Alric "A.C" Carter

Tauk will be in several states for this Fall tour including D.C., Maryland, Philly and New York. Their live show in fantastic as they proved when we caught them at The Peach Music Festival during the summer time. Make sure to check out their TOUR DATES for upcoming shows in your area. With this track release, we are only more excited to see what comes next!

The Great North Music and Arts Festival - A True Festy Kid Experience

A few weeks back mark my personal return to the great north east, Maine. It's been many years since my parents were taking me and my siblings to go into nature a little more, and experience the small towns and different eats. There was a great calling this time, one that blended music, art, and activism almost flawlessly.

The Great North Music and Arts Festival had it's first birthday September 27-29, and popped Maine's cherry for lack of larger festivals. The lineup was ridiculously talented, with both well known and not-so-well-known performers. Thanks to the names and the grinding promotion done, people were coming out from over the surrounding states, many traveling over 6 hours by car, including John and I. The drive from NYC was gorgeous, especially for the time of year. Trees up north are just beginning to turn, and it almost felt like we were cheating the system going to a camping music festival after the main 'season' had already ended. That weather stayed all weekend long with highs nearing 80, no clouds in sight, and chilly but clear nights. It really felt as if Summer was lingering there for us.

As we got to the camp grounds, there were signs everywhere telling us that this was going to be an awesome time. People were smiling left and right, dancing around campsites, groups meditating, the smells of food being cooked, and plenty of color throughout the grounds. It felt like there were people everywhere, camps were popping up in the woods, golf carts with staff were driving around making sure people were having a good time, people walking around with their friends and some working dogs were around as well... it felt like a small village.

After taking a quick walk around, I realized that the ground were not enormous, but felt that way because of all the things to look at and take it. There was an artists' tent by the main stage, but there was art everywhere. It literally felt like this was a home for people that not only love music, but also care about expression and communication. This is so important these days were there are people who don't know how to talk to one another. Even when the music started up, a rapper was on stage freestyling a message to all the festival goers about keeping clean and being safe... it was the first time in about 12 festivals I ever heard anyone give a positive message like that, and it made the days that I longed for something like "PLUR" make sense.

Alex and Allyson Grey
Beats Antique
RJD2

Originally, the lineup had me really excited. From the legendary artists Alex and Alysson Grey to the worldly folk sounds of Beats Antique, there was a pre-existing expectation of talent being brought to the table. In my reality, the names did not blow me away, but the unexpected sets that were the most epic. When Beats Antique took the stage, they started preforming all my favorite tracks, but to me it felt like I was listening to my Pandora channel. Granted their belly dancing member Zoe was not present, there was still a lacking feeling in energy and musical inclination. So I decided to begin walking over to the second stage area where ill.Gates was performing. There were maybe 45 people tops watching and grooving with him, and although I only caught the last 20 minutes of the set, it blew me away. I also need to mention RJD2. His set was also pretty freaking groovy. There was one point where the music cut out, and when he got on the mic, he joked about being a vinyl DJ and how sometimes the records crack, then back to the beats. He was really a stand up performer.

ill.Gates

The point is simple. Any form of art, from dancing to painting to making music, does not need the media hype behind it to be mind blowing. Pretty much every person I met that weekend had talent in some area, for some it wasn't even art but growing produce, or the some of the most top quality buds I've personally seen (it is legal to grow in Maine with a license). All this passion and skill at the festy did wonders for it. It proved, once again, that the EDM community is way more than what the main stream media is making it out to be. There were no major incidents, and everyone had a blast.

I cannot wait until next year.

2012 Festival Tour: EvolveFest - Open Mind

Wassup ya'll, Wish[Paus3] here! A few weeks ago we were telling you about a yoga-arts-music festival in New Jersey called EvolveFest. Being a few years in existence already, this festival has a nice following, and the following is full of open minded, spiritual, and quite flexible people. It was here that the community aspect I always talk about really came to light, this festy really hit home for me.

When we first pulled up to the festival grounds, you could see the camp sites already popping up from the main road. Last year we heard it was at another more secluded location, so The Warren County Fairgrounds was a new spot for all the return Evolvers. It was a cozy size with multiple stages and locations for workshops. Everything was nicely set up, with the majority of campers set up in a field, a vendors' row, and more places to explore such as where the Green Bus was parked and the old barn houses.

This festival is known for it's yoga workshops and spiritual lifestyle attraction. It was interesting to see the combination of EDM and this part of the community. The music was diverse, featuring some awesome talent that really blew us away. We checked out Karmic Juggernaut, Telesma, Consider the Source, and Mercury Landing... just to name a few. The music wasn't only on stages, it was pretty much everywhere you walked. There were drum circles in the fields throughout the day and around bonfires at night. Guitars, didgeridoos, drums and other percussion instruments were no strangers to the festival grounds. Everywhere we walked there were different sounds and music playing.

Karmic Juggernaut

Mercury Landing

dude.

Telesma
Now the main reason I fell in love with this festival was how open people were. The sharing of energy, conversation, knowledge... it was truly awesome how close I felt to everyone. It was easy to walk up to any tent, hammock, workshop, vendor, really anybody at all and start talking. As we spoke to more people, we created many connections. I mean, the ability to get over initial judgements and see people for who they were was extremely refreshing. Zodd and I met healers, yoga teachers, musicians, promoters, dancers, singers, bakers, artists... all these different people with different skills and life experiences. It was pretty awesome to hear everyone's stories in this wholesome environment.

This was a first for us and 100% not the last. To be able to connect with our friends the way we did and meet and connect with so many other people was truly a beautiful thing. Check out the pictures on our Facebook, and see all of them fly by in our Pictorial Walkthrough's and even this crazy drink called AhhMigo, check it out below.

Heading Upstate to Chill: Catskill Chill

This summer has been chock full of amazing parties, festivals, gatherings, and just all around good times! Most of it was spent jumping to a constant flow loud and bass heavy EDM, but we like to sit back, relax, and let the waves of musical genius flow over our bodies, lifting our souls and bringing us closer to that feeling of "everything feels just right". It might be jamming, jazz, soul, funk, or even the blues, we love it all. If you like that feeling and diverse music, you want to be at Catskill Chill.

Chilling Lights
Deep in the Catskill Mountains in Hancock, the is a beautiful place called Camp Minglewood. For the third year now, Catskill Chill will be three full days of diverse music on three stages, camping and hanging out with friends. Did I mention the camping is free? Yup! You don't have to pay for that, unless you bought an RV spot or cabin.

Chilling Camp
The lineup is great and full of different genres. We're talking Conspitator, Dopapod, Zoogma, EOTO, Consider the Source, Break Science, Fikus, Lotus, and so many more! Within the lineup there is a lot less bassy hard-hitting music and more flow, rock, and jamming.

There will also be a bunch of activities to get involved in! There will be yoga Saturday and Sunday mornings, open mic times, and some unscheduled surprises only you will find! The ticket price is VERY affordable for what you get, we're talking $125 now, and $145 at the gate. So what are you waiting for?! Get up to the mountains, and enjoy the end of your summer chilling.

The Z-Dar - Camp Bisco 11: Crystal Castles

Wow, Where to even start? Z here people and I'm just coming back from Camp Bisco 11 with my dudes Wish[Paus3], who you all know and love, Steve from Triple Threat Productions and Mr. Fitz. Needless to say it was an amazing experience, with great vibes all around with great people at literally every corner. It was hot as all hell which didn't help me one bit but with all the free water (boss as hell, thank you MCP) it wasn't too bad. You could almost taste all the good energy flowing around the place, not to mention tasting all the dust [lol].

Picture From: Life's Sweet Breath
Anyway I'm here to talk about Crystal Castles set that went on Friday afternoon. The electronic duo Crystal Castles, comprised of Ethan Kath on synth and fronted by none other than the dark haired (now blue apparently) witch house looking hottie Alice Glass, threw on an amazing set that blew people away. While pounding bottles of what looked like Jack Daniels, Alice proceeded to get the crowd going during their set by jumping off stage almost seducing the audience and literally crowd walking across hands. There was even one lucky kid who snuck on stage to sing during a remix of Crimewave.
All in all, it was an impressive bass intensive set showing off their newer stylings with alot of remixes and new songs I expect to be on any new releases once they get announced, but hey who knows whats in store for them. Thursday was a perfect indication of all the goodness in store for the rest of the weekend. Expect great things in the future and more news from Bisco 11 to come!

Peace and Love guys,

Into 2012, But First A Party

New Years Eve is one hell of a party night. I mean, I'm not sure who came up with the night before Thanksgiving being the biggest party night, because it's NYE that take over cities. We're talking Deadmaus3 and Nero is two spots NYC, every promotional group is throwing a crazy party that somehow gets packed out regardless of every group throwing a party, it is wild. But this year I did it a little unorthodox...

Let's Party!! By: Adam P.

Imagine this: Huge house in the Hamptons. Main floor has DJs spinning hardstyle, dubstep, house and all other sorts of EDM. Basement has live bands jamming out with punk, rock, metal and grunge. The backyard is stocked with people chatting it up smoking and the like. VIP area with a chill room and hot tub. Full bar. About 550 people packed into this house.

DJ Slew and DJ Scott Feld By: Adam P.
ROCK OUT!! By: Adam P.
They had a ton of stuff to do here. Drinking games like beer pong and Drink! (the board game), a chilling room dimly lit with black light, awesome drawings and painting around the walls, multiple kegs, fire dancers, and DJs from over, even Philly with Skitzofiliak. Speaking of DJs, here was the original lineup:

Chris Creaturee (Experimental/Electro Swing/Dubstep)
Ian BlaqkSheep LimeLight (Hardstyle/Electro/Dutch House)
DJ Slew (trance/house/progressive)
Mx Almond (Mash)
Panik Attack (DJ k*Y and Skitzofiliak) (Dubstep)
DJ Whodatt WhoDatt (electro//dirty dutch house)
DJ Mad Panda (House)
Mike Steeves (House)

Downstairs you had the bands rocking out:

Deadly Blessed (Metal/Hard rock)
Mother Brain (Grind)
Cygnus (Progressive / Death Metal)
Sea of Trees (Experimental)
Zombie Culture & Shmuck (Thrash/Hardcore/Black Metal)
High Bluff (Alternative/Garage/Punk)
The Skum (Punk)
The Assassins ( Hardcore punk)

I didn't get their with my fellow OWLs until 11pm. The party was probably at it's peak at this point. there were so many cars parked on the street, we had to park a five minute walk away. Which doesn't seem bad, but when you are crawling up a hill at 5 miles an hour trying not to hit any of the people showing up or driving off, it feels like forever. Regardless, we got in started meeting some people, and before we knew it, Happy New Year!! The party went to outer space when the ball dropped!

Balloons? Yes! By: Adam P.
That's when we broke out the gloves and started entertaining the crowd. It was like a mix between people who wanted light shows, and those that had never seen a glover before. It was so much fun throwing lights for the newbies, they were loving it!

Sweet Fire Poi By: Adam P.
Yay Paus3 gets a Show from Hurricane! By: Adam P.
Supernova Throwing Nights By: Adam P.
We hung out in the darkroom for a while playing with lights... and then the cops showed up.

Now the cops came because of the parking situation. The few neighbors that were left there for the winter probably got pissed and made the call. But to get over 500 kids out of a house, were the promoters wouldn't let the cops inside the house (good jobs guys!), it will take a while to clear out. We laid low for a while hoping they would leave when a majority of the party goers dipped... but they didn't. Everyone was out of the house by 2am and I was sad about that. I was pissed mostly because I missed KY and Skitzofiliaks set. I never heard Skitz spin, but he coached KY a little, and I've only heard sick things about the dub he drops. One day soon I will get my ass to Philly or catch him at another event.

The night continued for me and my friends when we went to another friends house... after an hour and a half drive. Next time a party is thrown, I hope it's in a venue that can't get busted up, because this party was amazing!

It was the best kind of mayhem my eyes have ever witnessed. Surprisingly without too many issues either. With that amount of people, there's going to be problems, like not being able to control the door, or being able to really move with everyone in the house. With those issues aside, the party was off the hook, and with many familiar faces from the scene. Everyone who could threw in a hand to make it into a success.

Orbiting Monster By: Adam P.
On the promotion you had Ula Gradowska, Chris Creaturee and Teresa Gradowska. They are the ones to thank for filling this place out and making sure it was a banger! Taking care of lighting was Powertrip Lighting, and doing a sick job with it. They brought in a ton of equipment and the room looked fantastic. Always love seeing Alex on the scene, mad props to you! Also lending a hand with equipment was Nick Slew, and Mike Steeves. They brought in all the DJ equipment, and with just the above mentioned, that's a lot to bring in, especially to a house where you don't have the luxury of a stage and it's pretty much a risk with everyone getting crazy. You also had Divine GoGo dancing in the little room they had in front of the booth and still having fun with it!
